This is a measure of the proportion of people in a population who have a disease at a point in time, or over a defined period of time.

Examples:
- geographic variation in multiple sclerosis prevalence
- prevalence of atrial fibrillation
- COPD prevalence
- prevalence of schizophrenic disorders
- prevalence of migraine
