Cyclizine is a sedative antihistamine with antimuscarinic activity.
Belongs to the class of piperazine derivatives used as systemic antihistamines.
Used in the treatment of nausea and vomiting.
Adult
PO
Nausea and vomiting - HCI: 50 mg up to 3 times/day. To be given 30 mins before traveling for prevention of motion sickness.
IV/IM
Motion sickness - lactate: 50 mg 4-6 hrly, to be started 30 mins before traveling.
Post-op nausea and vomiting - lactate: 50 mg up to 3 times/day, to be started 30 mins pre-op. Max: 200 mg/24 hr.
Adverse drug reactions: CNS depression, headache, psychomotor impairment, dry mouth, thickening of mucous secretions, blurred vision, difficult or painful urination, constipation, GI disturbances, palpitations, and arrhythmias.
