Anti-androgens (e.g., cyproterone acetate, bicalutamide, and flutamide) are used for the treatment of prostate cancer and act by competitive inhibition at the androgen receptor.
Adverse effects are generally mild:
- General: weight gain, fatigue, lethargy
- Endocrine: gynecomastia, hot flushes, diminished libido
- Gastrointestinal: nausea, anorexia
- Hepatic: (rare) severe hepatotoxicity
